About Us
The reason why this department is founded
The developmental objectives of our department are based on the spirits of “The Occupational Safety and Health Act” and the contents of its regulations. On July third, 2013, “The Labor Safety and Health Act” was renamed as “The Occupational Safety and Health Act.” In this Act, the applicable objects increased from 6.7million to 10.67 million workers. Besides, in order to build a sound system to prevent occupational diseases, certain measures such as the safety control mechanism of equipment and poisonous chemicals, the bulletin of laborers’ health check-up results, and the classified health management systems are taken according to the Act. Hereafter, all walks of life needed occupational safety and health professionals, ranging from the labor industries, or the precise semi-conductor industries of high technology, to the medical industries as the trend of industries and social expectations.
With the growing commercial and medical industries, the need for occupational safety and health professionals in all kinds of industries increases as well. Moreover, due to the frequent natural disasters like typhoons and earthquakes in Taiwan, together with the threats of public safety accidents, such as fires, explosions in factories and the gas explosions in Kaohsing, the related disaster-prevention propaganda and rehearsal planning need to be done in no time. Plus, the food safety storms like rancid water-oil, “the food safety” has also become a hot issue in our society. As a result, more professionals for laborers’ safety and health are needed. According to a magazine released in December, 2014, referring to the openings between 2009 to 2014 released by the 104 Information technology database, the laborers’ safety and health administrator ranks as the sixth place among the openings. Actually, the more emphasis the government puts on the safety and health of laborers, the more strictly policies and regulations will be made. Consequently, the industries are forced to recruit professionals to assist building the system of safety and health management for laborers.
Based on the school principles-sympathy, kindness, generosity and devotion, together with our efforts to promote the safety and health education to decrease the occupational disasters, in 2005, the first two-year college of the Department of Occupational Safety and Health was founded, aiming to cultivate the occupational safety and health professionals to help improve the occupational safety and ensure the saftey and health of laborers. In 2007, the five-year college of the Department of Occupational Safety and Health was also established. Though our department stopped enrolling two-year college students in 2011, our department was greatly honored and ranked as “the first place” in the 2012 College Evaluation. In 2014, twelve students in our department successfully passed the Examination of Skill Evaluation and became the Safety and Health Administrators. The passing rate was higher than the average national passing rate. We believe, with the diversities of the occupational disasters, the culitivation and education of the occupational safety and health professionals is necessary and urgent. In reality, we perceive the need to re-enroll new students in our department.
